The Symposium will take place in the city of Matera, located in the southern Italian region of Basilicata, and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993 for its unique historical and cultural significance. The site includes The Sassi and the Park of the Rupestrian Churches, which comprises a complex of houses, churches, monasteries, and hermitages carved into the natural caves of the Murgia. Matera was also designated as the European Capital of Culture in 2019.

Matera has recently been designated the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue for 2026, alongside Tetouan, Morocco. The aim is to promote cultural exchange and unity in the Euro-Mediterranean region. Matera's goal is to celebrate its region's heritage and encourage dialogue through art, community projects and shared history.
